Hello! I'm Tosh, I provide practical Japanese lessons for people who aim to work in Japan or are considering living in Japan in the future. My lessons focus on expressions that native speakers actually use in business situations and everyday conversations, which aren't taught in textbooks.

I majored in mechanical engineering at university and studied robotics in graduate school. After that, I joined a major telecommunications company with an offer acceptance rate of just 10% as a new graduate and worked there for 4 years. Seeking a new challenge, I decided to leave the company and am now working as a Japanese language teacher.

Currently, I am studying English myself—so in that sense, our positions are the opposite. Through this experience, I have come to clearly understand one thing, simply speaking a language does not lead to meaningful improvement.

Based on recent research, when we analyze what it truly means to "be able to speak" a language, we find that the most important factor is the ability to naturally retrieve and use chunks of expressions that native speakers actually use.

For example, when someone asks, "Do you like chocolate?" I can only respond with, "Yes, I do," because that is the only expression I know. A native speaker, on the other hand, might say, "Yeah, I love it—especially the bitter one," adding information and expanding the conversation.

What matters here are expressions like "especially," which help connect ideas and deepen the conversation. By being able to use such expressions, you can broaden your conversations, express your opinions more effectively, and speak in a more logical and structured way.
